Therapeutic Treatments for Gum Disease

Dental-Hygiene-Services-Treatments-Gum-Disease

You may be presented with specific treatment or gingival therapies that are aimed at reducing inflammation and pockets if your assessments reveal the presence of gum disease.

These treatment options may include 2-4 appointments of deep cleaning, also known as rootplanning  (a cleaning below the gum line). We also use a medicinal and professional strength antimicrobial pocket irrigation solution called TheraSol  that kills the bacteria below the gum line on contact. A Viajet oral irrigator unit used with disposable irrigator tips allows TheraSol to be dispensed into the little nooks and crannies that are deep below the gum line of pockets greater than 4mm.  It’s also highly substantive, clinging to surfaces long after its been applied. The Picasso Lite diode laser may also be recommended as an adjunct treatment option with your deep cleaning. With this laser diseased, infected or inflamed gum tissue is removed with little to no bleeding. The laser energy helps reduce bleeding and inflammation, it kills the bacteria and sanitizes periodontal pockets and root surfaces to achieve speedy healing. Once your dental hygienist has achieved improvement of pockets and has stabilized the progression of gum disease it may be suggested to return for 3 to 4 month cleaning intervals in order to maintain the positive results and prevent relapse of the pocketing.
